In 2008 my husband and I were working empty nesters when our military daughter deployed to Afghanistan and we became the guardians to her two school age daughters. We moved the children into our home, enrolled them in school, dealt with raising children in todays society vs. 30 years ago, learned how to cope with our daughter in a hazardous environment, tried to understand all the mixed emotions of a changing lifestyle, learned what deployed military families go through, and after our daughter returned from her tour of duty, helped to reunite the family back to prior deployment. And when it was all over, I had to readjust back to once I once, was a grandma again.

So many of my friends wanted to know how I managed during that time, so I wrote a book Deployed Grandparents being Parents, about what I experienced during my daughter’s deployment. The Grandparents being Parents website offers vital information on subjects I experienced during my daughter’s deployment.

I welcome you to the community of Grandparents being Parents. A place where you can share your experiences, feelings and have support while you raise your grandchildren!
